Updated 10/7/10 Place of Execution2009 - Two Parts"Place of Execution" is a psychological thriller based on a novel by Val McDermid, the same author whose novels were the basis for the series "Wire in the Blood". The story begins in 1963 when a 13 year old girl, Alison Carter, goes out to walk her dog and never returns. The case is assigned to recently promoted Detective Inspector George Bennett. The case has attracted the attention of all of England and he is under great pressure to solve the mystery. He becomes obsessed with the case and the image of the missing girl. Although a body is never found, Inspector Bennett, finds enough evidence to arrest a suspect for the murder of the young girl. Later Bennett goes on the have an extraordinary career. It is now more than forty years later and photo journalist Catherine Heathcote is making a film about the case. She has been working with the now retired George Bennett, visiting the scene of the crime and interviewing the people who were there at the time. Some of the information she has gathered raises new questions. There is a reluctance of some people to talk about the past events. When all of a sudden even Bennett will not talk anymore, she becomes determined to find the truth. The acting is very good especially with Juliet Stevenson as Catherine Heathcote and Lee Ingleby as the young Detective Inspector Bennett. Much of the story telling is done through flashbacks. Great production! A small word of warning. Some may find the surprise ending somewhat disturbing.
