The Last Detective

Detective Constable Dangerous Davies is a honest, hard working policeman who gets no respect from his boss or fellow officers. As his wife says in one of the first episodes: "He is called dangerous because he is not and the last detective because he is the last given a case". The only people who respect him are the criminals who feel they are treated fairly by D.C. Davies.

Davies' personal life is a mess. He is separated from his wife. They have agreed to divorce, but they just cannot seem to bring their marriage to a conclusion. They use joint custody of their St. Bernard dog to force continued communications.

This series is different then the others I have listed on this site. Dangerous Davies is not viewed as a master detective, but he is an interesting character. The stories do not start with a mystery, but a mystery presents itself during the program. I will be updating this page as I view each episode.

1st Series - 2003

"The Last Detective "

We are introduced to Detective Constable Dangerous Davies. He is assigned the job of finding a criminal who has been on the run for some time. This task is not considered an important assignment and his boss has told him that he does not feel Dangerous is competent enough to handle more high profile cases. During his investigation he interviews an associate of the fugitive and is curious when he finds that this associate had a daughter who went missing twenty years before and was never found. D.C. Davies decides to reopen that case without telling his boss. The case leads to an unexpected result. This was the pilot.

"Dangerous by Moonlight"

A friend of D.C. Davies asks him to look into the disappearance of the local man even though his wife has not reported him missing. The man and his wife, an older couple who love ballroom dancing, have had by most accounts a very turbulent marriage. Dangerous discovers that although they had an unusual relationship, they loved each other. The wife was also aware that her husband was a womanizer and had an unsavory side. The wife believes her husband will return in time , but Davies is not so sure.

"Tricia"

Because of his likeable nature, Dangerous is assigned by his boss to a robbery case where the victim is irate because she feels the police are not doing anything to solve the crime. Unfortunately, the woman warms to D.C. Davies. Dangerous will come to wish he had never been given the case.

"Lofty"

A street person D.C. Davies knew is found dead in a canal. An inquest will need to determine whether the death was an accident, suicide or foul play. The investigation will call into question the true identity of the victim.

As a side story, Dangerous' bizarre relationship with his wife continues and he may be forced to move in with a friend while his rented room is renovated.

2nd Series - 2004

"Christine"

The body of a would be artist is found in his burned out studio. The autopsy reveals that he had had a blow to the head and was legally drunk. His wife appears to be indifferent to the man's death. She is 20 years younger than him and married him recently after he won the lottery. The man also had a retard boy living with him he brought back from the Caribbean. D.C. Davies is assigned the case. His boss is sure the wife killed her husband.

"The Long Bank Holiday"

Dangerous discovers a human skull in a man's garden after the man reports that his garden was vandalized. Davie's boss sees this as an important case and takes Dangerous off the case and assigns him to an apparent suicide case instead. The victim jumped in front of a train and the remains are difficult to identify so D.C. Davies will need to discover who the victim was first. During the investigation, he finds a suicide note and then discovers the victim could not write?

"Benefit to Mankind"

A medical researcher is found dead is a canal. It appears to be a suicide and the medical examiner also agrees that it was a suicide. However, when Dangerous performs the routine investigation associated with this type of death he is not so sure. One of the victims associates indicates to D.C. Davies that she would like to speak to him privately and then disappears.

"Dangerous and the Lonely Hearts"

A recent immigrant for Albania is found strangled to death in her apartment. She was a vivacious woman who had recently joined a dating service to meet more men looking for a husband and father for her young daughter. In a strange twist, Dangerous discovers that his boss belongs to the same dating service and had been out with the victim.

3rd Series - 2005

"Friends Reunited"

A man is found murdered in his room during a college reunion. He was savagely stabbed to death. Dangerous finds that among his close friends, the victim was viewed with both jealously and hate. There is strong evidence that one friend in particular committed the murder. He claims his innocence, but one of his alibi witnesses is notoriously unreliable and the other is a man who supposedly died 15 year ago. Dangerous sets out to clear the suspect and find the real murderer.

"Towpaths of Glory"

A Bosnian war hero is found shot to death laying on a garbage pile. Dangerous finds a diverse list of suspects. There is the battered wife, the business partner, the daughter and the possibility that a member of the victim's old military unit may have committed the crime. He finds that soldiers and military families live in close knit society and are extremely loyal to one another.

"Three Steps to Hendon"

An aging 1970s rock star is found dead in his apartment. It appears at first glance that he suffocated accidentally after a night of heavy drinking. However, an autopsy reveals that he may have met with foul play. While interviewing his old band mates and promoter, Dangerous discovers that beneath the apparent glory and fame of the band's 1970s successes were things they would have liked to have forgotten. Did an event in the distant past lead to the singers death?

"Willesden Confidential"

A stock car racer who is viewed as a local hero is killed when his car burst into flames during a race. When by chance Dangerous discovers that the brother of a boy killed accidentally by the dead driver years before works at the track, he asks that the fuel line be examined closely. The fuel line had been cut. Is the brother the murderer?

4th Series - 2007

"Once upon a Time on the Westway"

A notorious local criminal is released from prison. That same day an armored car carrying millions in diamonds is robbed. The recently released gang leader immediately becomes a prime suspect. However, he is found murdered within days of the robbery. During his investigation, Dangerous discovers he had written a book that may have provided a motive for the murder.

"Dangerous' Liaisons"

A reclusive man is found dead in his home. The evidence at the crime scene indicates to Dangerous that the man may have been a victim of foul play. An autopsy confirms his suspicions. During the investigation, Dangerous finds a 20 year old porn film that documents a crime the murder victim may have committed.

"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Willesden"

During a performance, a comedian dies on stage from what appears to be natural causes. However, the medical examiner finds that the man was poisoned. During his investigation, Dangerous discovers that this 61 year old, overweight and not in good health victim was quite the womanizer. In fact, three of his mistresses were in the audience the night he was murdered. Dangerous also discovers that the victim had a strained relationship with his comedy partner.

"The Man from Montevideo"

A limo driver is found murdered in his car. A medical examination finds that the man has had extensive cosmetic surgery on his face. Dangerous sets out to find out who the victim really was and why he found it necessary to change his appearance. He may have been a London cab driver who disappeared many years ago without a trace.

"Dead Peasants' Society"

A man is found slumped in his car on a soccer field. He had been stabbed to death. During the investigation, Dangerous discovers that the man belonged to a secret society and had been talking to a reporter about the society. To complicate matters, Dangerous also learns that his boss is a member.
